I GOT A DRUG PROBLEM

April 16th

It’s an “I Got A Drug Problem” Day

LORD, WE THANK YOU FOR OUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WHO KNEW HOW TO RAISE US THE RIGHT WAY AND THE GODLY WAY. HELP US TO RAISE OUR CHILDREN LIKE OUR PARENTS RAISED US. AMEN.

One day I was in the barbershop, and some guys were talking about the drug problem in our community, and then somebody asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?”

I just looked at him like he was crazy and replied by saying: “I had a drug problem when I was young: You see, I was drugged to church on Sunday morning. I was also drugged to church for weddings and funerals. I was drugged to family reunions and community socials no matter what the weather was. I was drugged by my ears when I disrespected any adult. I was drugged to my bedroom for a behind whipping when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I did not put forth my best effort in everything that I was told or asked to do.

I was drugged to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered any profanity. I was drugged out to pull weeds in my grandmother’s garden and flowerbeds. I was drugged to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, they would have drugged me back to my bedroom for another whipping.

Those drugs are still in my veins, and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, Heroin, PCP (Wet), K2, marijuana, and alcohol put together, and if today’s children had this kind of drug problem, if they were raised like we were raised, they would be more like us and America would be a better place. May God bless our parents who drugged us. Beloved, did you get drugged?
