GOOD IN A FUNERAL

March 22nd

It’s a “Good In A Funeral” Day.

WE THANK YOU, GOD, FOR HELPING US TO FIND THE GOOD IN ALL ASPECTS OF OUR LIVES AND FOR HELPING US SEE THE GOOD THROUGH THE PAIN. AMEN.

I dedicate this message to a great friend, mentor, and brother who made the final transition, DANIEL BALDWIN, Sr., thanks for the memories PIP, His home going CELEBRATION is today.  Please PRAY for his Family.

Let me begin by saying that we need funerals because:
1) The funeral allows the family and friends to honor the deceased.
2) The funeral allows us to feel, see and have the support of family and friends.
3) The funeral gives us an opportunity to give GOD praise.

Now there is good in almost everything we do in life even funerals. So today I want to share with you several good things about funerals.

First, the funeral causes the family to come together. In most of our families, we only get together when there is death, a wedding or some crisis with a family member. We say at the funeral, we are going to get together, but we never end up doing it until the next funeral. We have a great time at the repast. We meet new family members and friends. Then we take precious photos that become keepsakes and photos to be used at the next family funeral.

Second, the funeral, if held at a church, causes us to come to church. Some of us are what I call C&E Special Event Christians. In other words, we only come to church for Christmas, Easter, Weddings and Funerals. Some funerals are so packed that there is standing room only in the sanctuary and an overflow in the social hall of the church. That’s why funerals make good preaching for the pastor. I’m a witness to that. I love to preach to a packed house. Amen, somebody.

Finally, funerals are good because they cause us to reflect on our lives. Am I living a good and healthy life? Are people glad to have me around? Am I living each day to the fullest? Am I happy? How do I want to be remembered? Is my relationship good with my family and friends? But most of all is my life pleasing to my GOD? So this service allows us to reflect and make positive changes in the way that we are living.

Beloved, I challenge you today to think about your family. When was the last time you all came together? When was the last time you attended church? Most of all how are you living and what is your relationship with your GOD?
