HOLD ON AND HOLD OUT

February 20th

It’s a “Hold On And Hold Out” Day

LORD, HELP US TO CARE FOR OUR ELDERS SO WE ALL WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD ON AND HOLD OUT. AMEN.

One of the issues of life that almost all of us have to deal with sooner or later is taking care of our aging parents. We dread it, and in many cases, we complain about it. Someone might ask the question how do I deal with all the problems and stress that this time in my life brings upon me. My mom or my dad nags me and at times just gets on your last nerve. At times all we can say is JESUS give me the strength to hold on and hold out. So how do we hold on and hold out?

First, we need to realize that we are just returning the help that they gave to us. They fed us, clothed us, protected us, taught us and guided us. Now, when this was going on, we both would say that we got on each other’s nerves. I often say to young people if your parents get on your nerves all you have to do is move out, get your own house and pay your own way. And if they can’t do that then they need to understand that as long as they are living under their parent’s roof, they need to follow their parent’s rules. (Somebody says, “I know that’s right”)

Second, we need to realize that when we take care of our parents, we are following the commandment of God who told us to honor our mother and father. Life is about helping others, it’s about serving, and it’s about making life better for someone other than yourself. In life, we reap what we sow, and there is going to come a time when we are going to need somebody to take care of us. Taking care of your parents helps you get spiritual points in heaven and GOD will make sure, when the time comes, that there will be someone around to take care of you.

Third, we can hold on and hold out if we remember and come to the realization that one-day our parents will be going to glory and we are going to wish they were still here to get on our nerves. Let me testify here: My grandmother, whom we called Mother Dear, would make me take her down to the Maryland house to meet my Aunt who would then take her the rest of the way to my Aunts’ house. I would fuss and pout all the way down. Well, my Mother Dear is gone now, and I would give anything to take her all the way to my Aunts house.

So beloved, hold on and hold out by remembering Momma and Daddy took care of you, you are doing the will of God, and they won’t always be here on earth with you. So cherish the moment while you have it for soon and very soon they will be gone. Can I get a witness?
