REMEMBERING OUR KING

It’s a “Remember Our King” Day.

LORD WE THANK YOU THIS DAY FOR SENDING OUR KING TO SHOW US, LIKE JESUS, HOW TO MAKE THIS A BETTER WORLD THROUGH LOVE.

Today we pause to remember Our King. I know this is America and there is no monarch but we did for a brief period have a King. He did not sit on a throne. He did not have subjects to rule over.  He did not have authority over the land but he was Our King.

He passed no laws directly, but he did change our behavior towards one another. No one bowed before him nor did he live in a palace. He never wore a golden crown and he had no scepter. There was no royal court for him but he was Our King. Our King who was sent by GOD. Our King who made us a better nation. Our King who was a Drum Major for Justice and Righteousness. Our King who tried to feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Our King who led a war on poverty and fought segregation. Our King who changed our society by non-violent direct action. Our King who gave us a vision of the Beloved Community where all men are brothers. Our King who taught us that love was a powerful force and hatred did nothing but produce more hatred. Our King who had a dream that America would one day be a great nation. Our King who proclaimed that we as a people, would get to the Promised Land. Our King was slain and taken from us on this 4th day of April in 1968 but his spirit lives on. I know this is America and not England but he was and still is Our King.

So we pause to remember this man of God who was Our King: The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. May we live, our lives in such a way that we, like him, strive to turn this old world into a new world full of love, peace and justice. Beloved I ask you today are you living like Our King?
