WHEN BIRDS WORRY

It’s a “When Birds Worry” Monday

LORD, HELP US TO HAVE FAITH AND NOT WORRY. AMEN.

When the birds begin to worry

And the lilies toil and spin,

And God’s creatures all are anxious,

Then I also may begin.

For my Father sets their table,

Decks them out in garments fine,

And if He supplies their living,

Will he not provide for mine?

Just as noisy, common sparrows

Can be found most anywhere—

Until some just worthless creatures,

If they perish who would care?

Yet our Heavenly Father numbers

Every creature great and small,

Caring even for the sparrows.

Marking when to earth they fall.

If His children’s hairs are numbered,

Why should we be filled with fear?

He has promised all that’s needful,

And in trouble to be near.

The songwriter had this same idea when he wrote:

“Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart be lonely and long for heaven and home? When Jesus is my portion, my constant friend is He. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. I sing because I’m happy. I sing because I’m free. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me! So why are you worrying?
